When to Get Hearing Aids: The Sooner, The Better

On average, a person will wait seven years from the time they notice hearing loss symptoms to the time they consult an audiologist. During this time, the auditory nerve and brain can become under-stimulated, leading to auditory deprivation and reduced speech clarity. This is why the sooner you get hearing aids, the better.
Don't Wait Until It's Too Late
Sensorineural hearing loss, which includes age-related and noise-induced hearing loss, is permanent. It won't get better on its own; it will only get worse. Many people feel they can "get by" without hearing aids, but waiting until you absolutely need them makes it much harder to adapt and benefit from them. By the time hearing loss interferes with your daily interactions and causes difficulties, you should already be wearing hearing aids.
The Adaptation Period
Wearing hearing aids requires an adaptation period as you get used to the device, its amplified sound, and the technology. While anyone can adapt to hearing aids at any age, the sooner you start, the easier the process will be.
